Almuñecar is a real hidden gem, with an authentic Spanish character, rich history and beautiful beaches.

Located on the Costa Tropical, this is an amazing destination within an hour’s drive of Granada and Malaga.

Almuñecar is a real hidden gem! As it’s more popular with Spanish tourists than International ones, it has retained its character, so there’s more authentic Spanish food, it’s better value for money and less crowded. It also has a rich history, beautiful beaches and plenty to see and do.

Almuñecar’s charming Old Town extends up the hillside above the beautiful Costa Tropical beach and takes you back in time to the Spain of old. Wandering through its cobbled streets and visiting the independent shops, cafes and bars is a must.

The beaches and coves in this area give Nerja a run for its money and there’s ten to choose from! These include family friendly sandy beaches, a few nudist beaches and some rocky coves which are great for snorkelling.

But this area definitely offers more than just beaches! You can visit the botanical park, the AquaTropic Water Park, an aquarium and even a bird park. It’s a great place for some retail therapy, with weekly markets, independent shops and even a large shopping centre.

There’s everything you need to live all year round in Almuñecar, with a range of private healthcare providers, as well as public health centres. The nearest hospital is in Motril, around a 30-minute drive away. You’ll find banks, supermarkets and all the services that you can need, plus there are Spanish state and private schools here, as well as an international school and a bi-lingual state secondary school.

The beautiful Marina del Este is nearby and is also worth a visit. This pretty marina has capacity for over 220 boats and contains art galleries, shops, markets, restaurants and bars and features some lovely properties.
