British buyers have flocked to the modern residential community of Calahonda for many years and it offers a little slice of the UK under the Spanish sun.

Named Sitio de Calahonda, this residential community sits equidistance between Fuengirola and Marbella and under 30 minutes’ drive from Malaga airport. There are a number of residential zones, within Calahonda, all with easy access to the main coastal road, the toll road and the beach.

Calahonda was developed mainly as a tourist destination, and this area has boomed in recent years to become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Costa del Sol. It boasts a great beach, the port of Cabopino which is alive with luxury restaurants and bars and many large, green parks.
It’s a wonderful area for a holiday, or to live all year round. It is an international community where almost everyone speaks English and services are designed with expats in mind. Within Calahonda you’ll find everything that you need to live year-round or have everything on your doorstep for a great holiday. It includes numerous supermarkets and shops, banks, three health centres, a church and services of every kind.

There are also some excellent sports facilities within Calahonda itself and in its neighbouring areas. These include a golf course, and 10 more courses within a 10-kilometre radius, plus plenty of tennis and fitness options. However, it is quite stretched out across all the different zones, so you’ll need a car to make the most of everything it has to offer.

There are lots of places to eat, drink and be merry. Avenida de España is commonly known as “the strip” and is lined with bars and restaurants with a distinctly international flavour. The El Zoco centre also includes a wide range of excellent restaurants and bars, including Spanish restaurants alongside international favourites and the standard is very high.
Within Calahonda is a nursery school and there are private international schools within easy reach as well.

Fun Fact: The town’s development is attributed to Don Jose de Orbaneja, who upon arriving on the Costa del Sol in the early 1960s, bought large swathes of land and joined them together and constructed the fort house which marks the entrance to El Sitio de Calahonda.
