Pretty village close to Estepona and just off the main coastal road, surrounded by developments and facilities, offering an excellent mix of charm, accessibility and everything you need on your doorstep
The neighbourhood of Cancelada, situated just East of Estepona, is a tiny village that retains its Andalusian character.
It is in the area known as the New Golden Mile, right between the busy towns of Marbella and Estepona and has a fantastic range of facilities and properties. Easily accessible from the motorway this little haven is popular with wealthy tourists and pleasure seekers alike. Surrounded by beautiful golf courses and hotels, Cancelada is quiet, calm and very popular with families.
Cancelada stretches either side of the coastal motorway from the hills down to the wide sandy beaches. The beach side area is known as El Saladillo and offers long stretches of sand, as well as some great chiringuitos and a classy beach club. It also includes a number of popular developments and independent shops.
Over the other side of the motorway is the charming little village, which retains its Spanish, traditional feel. It includes some great restaurants and wine shops, as well as the Town Hall offices, post office and a bank.
There has been a huge amount of construction around Cancelada village in the last twenty years, with carefully planned developments of apartments, townhouses and villas springing up from the hills down to the beach. However, the developments have been sensitively done and you won’t find skyscrapers or areas packed with houses, they’ve maintained green spaces and added playgrounds and squares to give a peaceful and pretty feel.
Families are very fond of the area and it boasts two indoor play centres, Mundo Mania and Kidz Kingdom. There are several large supermarkets, many bars and restaurants and shops. Plus, because it is so close to Estepona, Benahavís and San Pedro, you are within easy reach of lots of great golf courses, shopping and things to do, within just a ten-minute drive.
We’d definitely recommend checking out properties in Cancelada and the New Golden Mile in general, if you want to be in the heart of the action, well connected with everything, yet within a short walk of a traditional Spanish village.
Not to be missed: The 19th century Taraje aqueduct spanning the creek and countryside close to Villa Padierna and the water area of Mundo Mania for safe summer fun for the little ones.
Fun Fact: At Playa del Saladillo there is an old XVI century watchtower, known as Torre Vigía del Saladillo o Torre Lançe del Saladillo which was built to look out for pirates raiding the coast.
